Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi (IIFT) was established by the Government of India in the year, 1963. This institute is one of India’s leading business schools. It is an autonomous organization working with the aim of professionalizing foreign trade management of the country.
It conducts researches, analyses and circulates information and tries to improve human resource in order to increase exports. Internationalizing the economy of India is another important motto of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi. IIFT boasts of training business professionals in excess of 40,000 of more than 30 countries. Many of the research studies of IIFT are conducted in collaboration with World Bank, WTO, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the Government of India and UNCTAD.
The MBA Program on International Business gives the most stress on international business and it is a 6 trimester general management course. In order to take up this course, one has to have a Bachelor’s Degree of minimum three years duration in any subject. There is no age limit for taking up this course. The entrance exam involves a written test held every year on the fourth Sunday of November. Candidates qualifying in the written test are called for Group Discussions and Interviews held in February-March in Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai and Lucknow. The Par-Time MBA Program also focuses on international business and exams are held on a nine trimester basis. The required qualifications are the same as the regular course except that a minimum managerial experience of three years and a no-objection certificate from the employer are required.
Executive Post Graduate Diploma in International Business (EPGDIB) is is a one and half year course with three semesters. The admission procedure involves interviews and group discussions. Another of the courses of IIFT is the Certificate Program in Export Management (CPEM). This course aims to develop the export analysis skills of officers and executives. Marketing management, foreign trade and policy of India, international business environment, export-import procedures and marketing logistics are covered under this program. Candidates are selected on the basis of interviews. The PHD Programs of IIFT are targeted towards the research scholars.
