Texans Credit Union (TCU) is a not-for-profit organization driven by the needs of its members. Each accountholder has a stake in the success of the TCU, a fact that drives its mission to meet individual financial needs as comprehensively as possible.
Eleven people working for Texas Instruments, Inc. contributed $5 to a community pool in 1953 with the goal to provide low-rate loans to their fellow employees and promote sound financial decisions. After being approved by the Texas Banking Commission, Texans Credit Union rapidly expanded to include 267 members.
For almost four decades, the organization continued to cater exclusively to those employed by TI and their families before expanding to a handful of other businesses in 1991. A few years later, the group was granted rights to serve the larger community by the federal government, which led to a single-letter name change (from Texins to Texans) as a way to demonstrate the wide member base that now reaches across six central Texas counties.
To demonstrate its commitment to being an organization powered by Texans, for Texans, more than $1.5 million has been donated to local charities since 1995 and employees spend more than 1,000 hours per year volunteering.

With 19 branches spread across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, over 136,000 members, and more than $1.53 billion in assets, TCU is in larger than 99% of credit unions in the United States. As you might imagine, this takes a pretty sophisticated group of individuals to manage. The volunteer board of directors is elected by members and attended to by a CEO that takes great care to ensure every person on the member relations team lives up to the company values of integrity, financial education, and leadership.
