Federal financial institutions examination council is the interagency body that regulates the federal examination of financial institutions. The council prescribes uniform principles, sets standards and also reports forms for the federal examination. The council is governed by Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (FRB), the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS) and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). The council also promotes uniformity in supervising the financial institutions.
The federal financial institutions examination council was established in March 10, 1979. The State Liaison Committee (SLC) had been added to the council as a voting member in 2006. The SLC includes representatives from the American Council of State Savings Supervisors (ACSSS), Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) and National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS). The council provides information on the education of the examiners. The council also takes enforcement actions and orders against the institutions or their affiliated parties.
